My pals's girl scout troop is coming in December for a broadway show at 2 pm and we would like to know of some "unique" or
"absolutely cannot miss" restaurant to eat at. I have two recommendations from friends here Ellen's Stardust Diner and Katz's Deli. I know that locals can recommend some REALLY good places and not necessarily the tourist ones. We will not have a car as we will be coming on a bus trip but we area willing to walk. We arrive around 10:30 am and leave around 7 pm so we need to eat BOTH before "lunch" our show and afterwards for "dinner". Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It honestly depends what area you are going too, and budget range. I think a fun place might be California Pizza Kitchen, and than they can head to Dylan's for some candy(60th and 3rd), wich is in the UES, or The Popover Cafe wich is great for all meals, and than head down town along the way there are bunches of bakeries and stores don the UWS(86th and amsteram) if you want to stay in midtown maybe a fun place like Benihana, Stage Deli, Ruby Foos, FAO Schwartz has a cafe, or head to 9th ave and there are bunches of famous bakeries and restaraunts.

I'd recommend Carmine's for your after-show dinner. It is a little touristy, but it's also a Broadway classic with a great atmosphere. WIth family-style dining, it should be easy to order dishes that will feed the group and please everyone. You might even be able to place your order in advance. I'm no girl-scout troop leader, but it seems like it would be both convenient and fun for leaders and scouts.

To avoid some of the tourist traps you've already heard, why don't you try "Georgio's country grill" on 9th avenue and 55th. For a trendier, chic, 'Manhattan sophisticate" feel, try "Eatery" on 53rd and 9th ave. Things are presented beautifully, but do not have a pretentious attitude. They have a great mac n/cheese with towering frizzled onions.
