10/06/2008Well of course there are lots of different hairdressers, nail people, etc so I will base my rating on my hairdresser, Jamie.
Jamie does a good job. I get 2 diff colors dyed, a wash and a trim for $100... you can be the judge if you think that is a fair price.

10/06/2008I was very impressed with this place. It's the swiss army knife of restaurants. They have a nice bar where you can eat alone and not feel weird about it, nice little two-person tables for dates, and a couple larger tables for groups. The service was impeccable, the food simple and excellent, and the prices were completely reasonable. I'll definitely be going back.

10/06/2008This is what is wonderful about Pomelo....everything. The food was truly, delicious, service, smooth and friendly, atmosphere, comfortable and inviting, prices very affordable.
I say put this on your list of must try, and then regular you can count on places. I so look forward to going back and back again so that I can sample of their delicious combinations.

10/06/2008Four years ago I went to the Chicago locale, it was a brand new concept at the time and I liked it, since then it seems like a weaker, less prosperous version of Crate and Barrel. Everything has this "let's decorate a dorm room for my daughter" look ie cheap looking throw away stuff made in China. I came in to buy my beloved Marta tumblers but other than that nothing stood out, the concept has been watered down since 04. Stick with Crate and Barrel the merchandise has more umph and substance.

10/06/2008Absolutely five stars. Based on the food alone, I would give San Mateo Prime four stars, but our server is what made me give them the extra star. He was fabulous - so attentive and very kind. I wish I got his name, but to the tall Caucasian man with two daughters and no wife: You were great and made my dad's birthday dinner the absolute best!
He seated us in a cozy booth in the corner, and we weren't ignored like at other places when hidden in some dark corner. We never had to ask for more bread or drinks, it was automatically replenished. But anyways, on to the food.
Salad: There are two options of either the house salad or mixed greens. We all opted for the house salad and though it was on the smaller side, it was freshly tossed and crisp. It was the perfect size for me. I wish there were more beets, but still good!
Prime Rib: I chose the Avenue cut prime rib cooked medium rare. God, I swear I haven't had such good prime rib in a long time. It was perfectly cooked and so tender. Like.. SO TENDER. It was absolutely delicious, but the mild horseradish was a little too salty for my taste.
Sides: I chose the baked potato (with extra butter, sour cream, and chives) and the creamed corn. They have many more sides than House of Prime Rib or Broadway Prime. They offer french fries, garlic fries, sauteed spinach, and garlic linguine on top of the usual sides. The garlic linguine was DELICIOUS. Please try the linguine, it is really tasty.
Dessert: I had let the server know that it was my dad's birthday when we walked in, and he brought out a creme brulee with a candle, It was a typical creme brulee, nothing spectacular. But it was free!
I asked our server to box up my prime rib along with the creamed corn and my mom's garlic linguine. He told me he had put in some extra sides for me so I just figured it was more creamed corn. When I went to open my to go box for lunch today, I found that he put in the garlic linguine, more creamed corn, creamed spinach, AND mashed potatoes!!!! AMAZING! I didn't even order those sides! Thank you!!
I would most definitely, absolutely come back here. It is much smaller than Broadway Prime, more intimate, and MUCH nicer. I completely enjoyed my dinner mostly due to the service but the food was very good.

10/06/2008I'm kicking myself for not visiting Terzo before, it was probably one of the best meals I've had in San Francisco. Every plate was fresh and so delicious- but minus one star for the rude condescending waitress who kept talking down to us as if we were kids pretending to be grown-ups. Whatever lady, my $150 is just as good as the old people at the next table.

10/06/2008Sometimes you don't have much choice when dealing with a locksmith. But these guys run a poor operation.
After calling because my keys were locked in my apartment, I was told "about 20 minutes" for someone to arrive, it took over an hour for a technician to finally get there....despite the fact that their web site has a 20-minute guarantee:
"We guarantee that the response time from the moment you contact our customer service representatives will be no longer than 22 minutes."
Oh and there is no way for them to give you an estimate of the costs over the phone...because every lock is different.
After the technician arrived, he tried to pick the lock and decided that there was nothing to do except to drill. A total of 5 minutes of work (plus now a ruined lock for me) cost $39.00 for the service call and $120 to drill. Had I known the only option was going to be to drill and the cost would have been $159 for a ruined lock, I would have done it myself!

10/06/2008Both times I've gone in here, it was D-E-A-D.
However, the few patrons that were there, as well as the staff were friendly enough. They had something random on the TVs and the place was kind of homey--comfortable in a way I wouldn't have expected.
For now, I'm giving it a 3 stars... I'm hoping it'll improve and I will update my review. It just needs some more energy and more people. I don't go to a bar JUST to drink after all.

10/06/2008These guys are real pricks. I went to my sister's house to pick up my parents for airport. While my parents are packing, I tried to go to the pharmacy for pick up some stuff for my father, but found most surrounding streets are blocked off due to a street fair on Solano. Under time pressure, I had to return to the house. By then my parking spot was taken.
I had no choice but to park by the red curb, and I left my flashers on. Sure enough, 7 minutes later I came out with my parents luggage and found a parking ticket on the wind shield.
I wrote in for an administrative review, detailed the situation I was facing, and told them my mother could hardly walk due to her diabetes and a stroke years ago. They wrote a one-liner back: "parking by the red curb is prohibited at all times"
They probably didn't read my letter at all. I mean I didn't have a choice, I left the flashers on, and I left the car for only a few minutes. There's nothing else I could POSSIBLY do at the moment.
These assholes are obviously out to make some money. When I drove my parents off to the airport I found all surrounding streets are PACKED, and dozens of parking reinforcement cars were out praying on their next victim. This is a TRAP.
I suggest anyone who's considering going to the street fair on Solano realize the Berkeley Parking Enforcement is using it as a way to earn a few bonus bucks. I can afford the $51 parking ticket, but I won't let this slip till the mayor and the state representatives are aware of these pricks.

10/06/2008World's BEST napoleons, french horns (well that's what they look like) and awesome cannolis.
This place is a complete classic that is second to none. There is nothing like bringing home a box of Dianda's.... I think it should popularize itself on the gift circuit, this would be the best house warming present, EVER!
yum.

10/06/2008When you drive up and they meet you at your car. They'll ask indoor or outdoor and when will you be returning. Any services Car wash, oil change etc. They (often) move your bags to the shuttle bus. You leave them the keys, grab a coffee and you board the shuttle. DONE!
On the way back you call their 800 number, they send the shuttle bus. Mean time they move your car down to the pick up area (car drop off and pick up the same area). Your car is there waiting for you, you go inside and pay. Discounts CSAA, plus downloadable coupons on their website. You can also make parking reservation via SKYPARK.COM.
Air travel sucks, airport parking need not. Less stress

10/06/2008This is going to be a very useful review. I don't have time to fuck around as I've been out of commission for a week and need to catch up on everything.
I was never a huge believer of acupuncture and generally ignored Eastern medicine altogether. But when my lower back gave out mysteriously last week, my doctor as well as the ER doctors told me that there's nothing they can do for me and advised me to go home and just "wait it out".
I was in too much pain to work or take care of my family. Heck I was in too much pain to even sit and even lying down was difficult. The doctors did generously prescribe me vicodin and valium but they're recreational drugs in my opinion and I was in too much pain for recreational anything. I put those little bottles in my special drawer and made an appointment with Doctor Zeiger.
Whereas the other doctors could not tell me for sure what had happened to my back or even notice that I was bent sideways, the minute Dr. Zeiger looked at me, he pronounced that I have an L4 deviation. During the examination, he expertly pointed out without my assistance the exact spot in my back where the pain originated.
Then he stuck a bunch of needles in my neck, back of the knees and of course the effected area in my back. Acupuncture, when administered by an expert does not hurt much. I did feel the needle in my back going to work, and it felt like I was being gently massaged in that general area.
When I was done and he asked me to stand up, it was like a scene from the Bible and I was one of those Nazarene cripples that was made whole by Jesus' touch.
I was able to stand straight and the excruciating pain was miraculously gone. I won't lie and say that my back felt 100% normal. It still had some residual soreness, probably from the strain of the week. I ran back to my car just because I could. I have been smiling ever since.
Aside from literally making me walk again, I am a big fan of Doctor Z because he is everything a doctor should be - calm, caring and gentle yet confident and all knowing.
I want to shout it from a mountain top (but Yelping is easier) to all those who are suffering from back pain - Doctor Zeiger can help you with your in ways that no Western doctors can. Try it before you get hooked on painkillers.

He got a little lost getting to us which slowed his response time (hence one less star) but highly recommended.
Tom - I would suggest you get a GPS so you can get yourself anywhere in this crazy town.
Bottom Line - Call Tom First!

10/06/2008I actually have mixed feelings about this place. On week nights, bouble lounge is a nice place to just hang out and relax. But on weekend, it turns into an overcrowded, pretentious hollywood type night club. Well, I guess it's not nearly as ghetto as Hollywood...but to see ppl actually making out at the corner of the dance floor? please, get a room.

10/06/2008About 25 years ago, Coffee Tea & Spice was a very small specialty roaster of fine gourmet coffee. The owner, Bob Vorhees, was one of the most gifted coffee roasters every to work in San Francisco, who paid minute attention to every aspect of coffee from the green bean through roasting and cupping. He was scrupulous and as artistic as it is possible to be in this commercial field. The business, as you can imagine, was a huge success, and became a real haven for those who really love the very best coffee. He sold the business, which was then resold to the owners of the building (I guess they thought they had what it took). Unfortunately, after this final sale, the quality plummeted and instead of a truly remarkable institution, it became just another place to pick up a cup of average to below average coffee. (I use the word coffee here advisedly. What Vorhees offered was so spectacular that on first tasting a cup of his coffee I thought, rightly, it was the first time I had really tasted the stuff. And this superior product was consistent all the years and roasts that he produced.

10/06/2008some of the best sushi in town, the staff could be a bit slow (because they are overwhelmed / doing too many tables?) but once you get your sushi you will forget it all. sublime!
i brought a friend that travelled the world (and ate sushi all over the world) and even he said it was the best sushi he had ever eaten. very fresh. creative too...

10/06/2008When it comes to personal stuff, I always ask a friend, but when it comes to work, I want to take the best option available so as to not disappoint my co-workers and my boss. It's like recommending a bad stylist to your boss when he's in need of a haircut; the last thing you want is for your co-workers to question your taste.
I had no hesitation, however, in calling my friends Mike and Theo at Open and Shut. They may be my pals, but I think the rest of their 5 star reviews give a good indication of their service quality.
I called Theo at 4:30 pm and said "I know you're on the other side of the city and it's rush hour, but a key broke off in our office door and we need it fixed by 5:30 pm. Can you make that happen?"
He was here at 5, he was gone at 5:30. The door was fixed and the price was more than reasonable (and no, I didn't get any special "friends" discount).
Now I look like a resourceful and well-connected employee worth keeping around. My company was so happy with the price and the quickness of service, Open and Shut is in our address book as our official go-to locksmith :).

10/06/2008Great location, but I just don't love this place.
I do like that it has a wrap-around patio, similar to the one across the street at The Cafe, but it's open. I need my smoking area, and this is a nicety. You can people watch those walking by the intersection of Market St. and Sanchez, enjoy a drink and smoke outside.
The bar staff is usually hustling busy, because the only times I get dragged into this place, it's hopping. Last night, two ladies and I were trying to make our way through the sardine-can crammed crowd, and one leaned back and asked me where the dance floor was. I said, we were ON IT, but since the place was so busy, no one could dance.
The main area, straight ahead when you first go in is the area I'm talking about.
It's not really worth my door-fee (wtf?) and the drink prices are not great. They do pour the drinks in the style I refer to as "gay fabulous" though, meaning: ice, liquooooooooooooor, and a splash of mixer, just for formality's sake. So I'm not complaining too loudly.
Oilcan Harry's in Austin should take a hint (they never have good drink prices but their drinks could be a bit stronger).
Do I like this place? Meh, it's alright. It IS clean, unlike other Castro bars, and the place draws a crowd. Location for people-watching from the patio is nice, but otherwise, I prefer not to go.

10/06/2008Tina was great. I got a full acrylic set and they look pretty awesome.
The only reason I won't go with the full five stars is that the pedicure wasn't as intense as I had wanted it to be. It's been a while, so I needed INTENSIVE CARE. She was thorough enough but I think i needed a little more tough love.
She is very, very sweet though, and takes her time.
I'm editing this to point out what someone else pointed out -- her polish selection isn't very vast.
I also wanted to agree on another point -- she is really great about being accomodating. She opened the salon half an hour early to get me in at the time I needed, which is awesome of her to have done.

10/06/2008I'm sure many of us breakfast connoisseurs have peeped the word "Breakfast sandwich," "egg sandwich" or "eggwich" on a menu in our day. But never, ever, have I seen an edible egg creation with this much egg in it!
It was like climbing the rock of Gibraltar with your mouth. This thing was HUUUGE! It must have taken 45 eggs (okay, slight exaggeration, but still) to create this thing. Then throw in a croissant, some organic and delicious tomatoes, avocado and some ham and yum!
They also make a damn good Soy Vanilla Latte here and the people working here are cool and friendly to boot. It gets packy packed on the weekends, but it's definitely worth the wait and an awesome spot to pick up some tasty goods on your stroll through lower Pac Heights.

10/06/2008We went to see Brain Culbertson this weekend. The only good thing that I can say for this place is that the acoustics for live music is great.
The service is very very slow. There was only one waitress for a whole section. The Sashimi we ordered took almost 45 mins. People who ordered after us had not only been served their first order but also their second and third orders. The server served our drinks to a table next to us and they had to tell him that it was not theirs. Two ladies at another table, made the server take their wine back because it was not what they ordered.
The only reason we ate at the Jazz club was to get preferred seating. We were assigned to table #4 located in the front row. We were pleased that we got such good seats and eagerly entered the hall. We came to find out that our seats were already occupied. The manager had decided on the last minute to put us in a different seat without informing us. We do not know the reason for the change and she did not bother to explain. My understanding is that all of us paid the same amount of money for the show, so why the preferential treatment???
Our new seats were in front of the piano which blocked the view to the stage. We were absolutely furious and she said she was sorry but could not do anything. We refused to take those seats and she found us another seats with a view to the stage. She apologized but there was not an ounce of sincerity in it. Who is she kidding?? I think we are all adults here.
Our table mates told us that they were attending the 10 p.m. show and were given preferred seats for the 8 p.m. show.
We ordered our drinks and had to remind the waitress about it. By the time she arrived with the drinks there were three drinks instead of two. We told her that we had ordered only two and she said that the drinks had been already prepared and there was nothing that she could do. We drank the two drinks we ordered and when the bill came we were charged for our two drinks and one extra drink from another table. What an incompetent staff !!!
The dysfunctional staff ruined our evening. I will NEVER return to Yoshi's again.

10/06/2008I went on a gloomy Saturday morning, so we were able to find seats without a wait. This place is pretty small and the breakfast menu selection was limited. I ordered an omelet and I thought it was okay. I liked the portion size though, it's not huge like some of the breakfast place, which I guess is good for maintaining my figure.

10/06/2008I hate this place!!!! hahah j/k I've been here countless times and we always get the all you can eat n drink. They have a time limit now but back in the days, no limit. A very smart move....at least with the friends I went with, we would drink up a storm!
The beef is a bit fatty than other places. After about 20-30 mins, the soup will be all foamed up and you'll need to clean out all the fat that floated to the top. Standard issue of veggies, mushrooms, udon. The soup is just water! =T
Nothing too special about this place unless you want to drink lots....watch out for the stairs if you're heading to the restroom after some drinks! With so many other hot pot places now, I'll probably push this one to the side for a while.

10/06/2008The only reason I haven't switched banks EVER is because:
a) I've had the same savings/checking account since I was 15 years old
b) I know all of my account numbers by heart and am too lazy to try and memorize two new ones
c) You get the hook ups if you're a long time banker.. like a free upgrade to a platinum card, free checks, holiday address labels, etc
d) You're (almost) located everywhere
e) Your online banking is super duper easy to use to manage your finances
Other than that, you guys rape me in non-ATM/misc. fees.
As for this Inner Richmond location.. it pretty much blows. Obviously, catering to the Asian community so if you aren't of the kind, you best just go downtown or at least NOT on Clement street. Most of the tellers in here are fobs and hard to understand, plus, it always smells like fish outside since there's 3094720387401928 fish markets around you.

10/06/2008Rocks. I was away on vacation and got a call from the owner of the unit below us - about a 'leak.' Never good news, so we came home early and I looked up Ace, based on their reviews on Yelp.
David was prompt, pleasant and fixed the leak in one hour for less than a few hundred bucks. They were honest, quick and professional. Plumbers are not known for these traits, yet Ace was able to defy this.
Excellent work.

10/06/2008Overpriced. Filthy/Dirty from the outside.
If they really cared about their establishment...they would have a cleanup crew clean up the outside of their building..it smelled like fermented soda and pee. The sidewalk and entrance was seriously sticky!

10/06/2008"Super Cheap Car Rental was a great experience. Not only do they have great cars that get great gas mileage, (Toyota Corollas) but Super Cheap Car Rental's service was excellent. They picked us and droped us off at the airport. Also we were under 25 and there were no hidden charges or extra fees. Super Cheap Car Rental really made a difference in our travel budget and let us spend money where we wanted to not on a rental car."
